medical plants !
Sunday, September 13, 2009
Plants have always been considered a healthy source of life for all people.

Nowadays people are being bombarded with thousand of unhealthy products, the level of sensibility infront of diseases is very high and that's why the use of medicinal plants can represent the best solution.

our country was well-known of it's agricultural system . so we have lots of plants , especially medical plants .

so in this posting , we will discuss some of the famous medical plants a.k.a herbs

BANANA
(Musa Paradisiaca)
The banana, a plant originating in South Africa, is considered to have been the first fruit to appear on the Earth, having been mentioned in writings that date back to the beginning of mankind. Today it is the favorite fruit of many people, being rich in vitamins and minerals.

Bananas are true sources of energy.
A banana contains potassium, proteins, fibers, carbohydrates and an association of vitamins: A, B, B6, C and E; it is rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and folic acid.

These facts being taken into consideration, the banana is one of the healthiest fruits. It also contains serotonin or the substance of happiness, having an anti-stress role.

Being rich in calories, it is recommended that those who are holding anti-fat treatments and who suffer from diabetes consume it moderately. It is not indicated for use in a severe anti-cholesterol diet. Bananas do not bear temperatures lower than 12 degrees and they should never be kept in refrigerators.

ALOE VERA
(Aloe Barbadensis)
Aloe Vera is without a doubt the medicinal herb most widely known for its noticeable impacts on health and at the same time the ingredient most widely used in the cosmetic industry.

Aloe vera or "Aloe Barbadensis" is a plant which originated in North Africa and spread to the fertile lands with mild climate. Its physical aspect is similar to that of the cactus; the thick rind hides a succulent core formed mostly of water.

The herb contains 20 minerals (Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Chromium , Selenium), 12 vitamins (A, B, C, E, folic acid), 20 aminoacids from the 22 which are necessary to the human body, over 200 active components including enzymes and polysaccharides.

BLACKCURRANT

The currant is a fruit bearing shrub, originating from Tibet, extended and cultivated in Europe, dating 400 years back.

Containing tannin, vitamin C, potassium salts, and essential oil, the black currant is a good diuretic, anti-sclerotic, pectoral, sudorific, stomachic, anti-diaretic, anti-colitic, anti-stringent, hypotensive, and anti-rheumatic. Its leaves have a great diuretic capacity; they have anti-rheumatic effects, favoring the elimination of uric acids.

Natural currant juice is obtained from 400 fruits and 4 big leaves. It can be consumed simply or diluted in 200-500ml water, 3-4 times a day.
It has benefic effects against digestive inflammations and febrile states. Throat washes can be made with it more times a day for treating inflamed tonsils and throat aches.

smart snacking !
Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Between school, homework, sports, your after-school job, and hanging out with friends, it may feel like there's no time for healthy eating.
And when you do stop to eat, it's probably tempting to go the quick and easy route by grabbing a burger and fries, potato chips, or candy.

You may have noticed that you feel hungry a lot. Even if you take time to eat three meals a day, you may still feel hungry at times. This is natural — during adolescence, a person's body demands more nutrients to grow. What's the answer?

Healthy snacks.
Snacking on nutritious food can keep your energy level high and your mind alert without taking up a lot of your time.

But you need to pay attention to what you eat. Stuffing your face with a large order of fries after class may give you a temporary boost, but a snack this high in fat and calories will only slow you down in the long run.

To keep energy levels going — and avoid weight gain — steer clear of foods with lots of simple carbohydrates (sugars) like candy bars or soda.

Look for foods that contain complex carbohydrates like whole-grain breads and cereals and combine them with protein-rich snacks such as peanut butter or low-fat yogurt (you know like sour sally) or cheese.

healthy snacks also including fresh fruits like oranges , banana , grapes , and apples .
you know , apples a day can keep the doctors away ! ;)

do you guys know about h1n1 a.k.a swine flu ?
this virus is a dangerous virus that spread quickly around the world , and affect all the world population
so for you to know more about this virus , we are going to tell you more , including the effects and signs . read this one !

what is H1N1 ?
2009 H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009.

Why is H1N1 virus called “swine flu”?
This virus was originally referred to as “swine flu” because laboratory testing showed that many of the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs (swine) in North America.

How does 2009 H1N1 virus spread?
Occur in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza or sometimes by touching something – such as a surface or object – with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

What are the signs and symptoms of this virus in people?
Include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus.

What can I do to protect myself from getting sick?
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
be careful , this virus already spread around the world , including our country . protect yourself with eat and exercises :)
